So we had a great time in San Diego. It started off with the much dreaded (by me) plane ride. I must say, Mason did great. Having a third seat in the middle was a lifesaver, and we were lucky that the flights were not sold out. On the way up there, Mason was VERY energetic, but he pretty much just played the entire time. We had a bag FULL of stuff to keep him entertained, and it seemed to work. On the way back, he was an ANGEL. He played quietly for the first half of the flight and then just climbed into my lap and fell asleep for the second half. He even slept through a very bumpy landing.
We arrived in San Diego at 9:50 in the morning, so we had some time to kill before our 4 pm check in time at the hotel. We had lunch in Old Town, and then we headed to the beach. At first Mason was hesitant about the water, especially when the waves would come in and splash him, but it only took about 10 minutes for him to love it. He had a great time playing in the sand and throwing it everywhere.
The next day we went to the famous San Diego Zoo. Mason was most impressed by the birds, he loved them. The rest of the animals he really didn't care about. Apparently, the first time I went to the zoo, all I cared about was the chickens, so I guess it runs in the family.
We also got to hang out with my family that lives in California. We met up with my Cousin Cindy, and my Uncle Jim and Aunt Katie. We had a great time at their pool, riding bikes on the beach and then enjoyed a great evening boat ride in a Duffy Boat. It was perfect for Mason.
The highlight of the vacation was our second trip to the beach when Mason decided it was time to start walking (see video below). Rodney had just put the video camera away, and was holding just the camera and taking pictures of Mason and I walking down the beach. Well I let go of Mason's hand and off he went. He had taken maybe 3 steps in a row before this, but this was full blown walking. It was great. Rodney quickly went and got the video camera and we spent the rest of the time filming our little boy walk. It was great..........Mason certainly picked a perfect setting.
Overall it was a great trip, everyone had a great time, and we can't wait to travel again:)
